Running for hope: our Cambridge team take on Race for Life

14 July 2026

More than 30 colleagues, alongside friends and family, recently came together in Cambridge to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, raising vital funds for life-saving cancer research and demonstrating the power of community support in action.

The team participated in both the 5K and 10K events, united behind a cause that has touched so many lives. While the day was filled with determination, encouragement and celebration, it was also deeply personal. At the heart of the event was Jodine Williams, whose own cancer diagnosis earlier this year inspired colleagues, loved ones and supporters to rally around her and help make a meaningful difference.

Turning a personal challenge into a shared mission

Jodine was diagnosed in February 2026, undergoing emergency surgery, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Despite the life-changing nature of her diagnosis and the ongoing treatment she continues to receive, she set herself a goal: to complete Race for Life and raise funds for the research that provides hope for people living with cancer.

Initially unsure whether treatment would allow her to take part, Jodine completed a 10K run the weekend before the official event as a contingency plan. Then, while actively undergoing chemotherapy, she not only made it to the Race for Life start line but improved on her previous time.

For Jodine, however, the achievement was about far more than kilometres or finishing times.

Reflecting on the experience, Jodine said:

I’m running to support life-saving cancer research, but also for myself, for hope, strength and a future where more people survive diagnoses like mine.

What made the day truly special wasn’t the times we achieved, it was the people. My colleagues, friends and family showed up, supported me, encouraged me and made the day unforgettable. For a couple of hours, cancer wasn’t the thing defining my day.

Why Cancer Research UK Matters

The funds raised through Race for Life help support the pioneering work of Cancer Research UK, the world’s largest charitable funder of cancer research.

The charity’s impact can be seen across every stage of the cancer journey:

Preventing cancer:

Research funded by Cancer Research UK contributed to the development of the HPV vaccine, which is expected to prevent almost 90% of cervical cancer cases in the UK.

Detecting cancer earlier:

Over the last 50 years, advances supported by Cancer Research UK have helped double cancer survival in the UK, with early diagnosis playing a critical role.

Developing new treatments:

More than eight in ten people receiving cancer drugs in the UK receive medicines that Cancer Research UK helped develop or bring forward.

These breakthroughs are only possible because of the generosity of supporters and fundraisers. Regular donations, however small, provide the long-term, predictable funding needed to drive ambitious research projects that have the potential to transform outcomes for future generations.

A united community

The Race for Life team was made up Jodine’s family and friends, along with colleagues from across the business, including:

Carys Clements, Charlotte-May Hinson, Corinne Robinson, Dominika Nazarewicz, Liz Hazelwood, Elizabeth Bishop, Emma Lambert, Joanna Skinner, Julie Raitt, Kathryn Hartman, Katarzyna Brozek, Katie Bent, Lee Maughan, Megan Warner, Rob Allin, Siobhan Docherty, Suzanne Warner, Tricia Walsh, Zoe Hamlin, and even Affinia CEO Darren Redmayne, alongside family members and friends who joined in support.

Together, they transformed one person’s challenge into a collective effort that continues to make an impact.
