National Careers Week 2025: Career Progression
It’s not just a job. It’s a career.
To finish our series for National Careers Week (which runs from 3rd to 8th March) we’re sharing Holly’s story of how she progressed from Apprentice to Private Client Tax Manager with the support of her colleagues at Affinia.
Holly Heslop | Private Client Tax Manager in 4 short years
“I joined Affinia as a trainee in the tax department almost 4 years ago, studying towards my ATT/CTA professional qualifications. The support I have received both technically and personally is unparalleled to what any other professional firm has to offer.
Undoubtably, it has been the biggest contributing factor as to why I have developed to where I am today (and so quickly from a fresh graduate with no previous experience!).
I have been fortunate to benefit from a one-to-one mentorship with senior staff members, who have pushed me to become a well-rounded tax professional and strengthened my confidence in my ability to do my job.
Affinia has also given me a unique learning experience, in which I have had exposure to a range of compliance and advisory work which I wouldn’t have had to the chance to do elsewhere.

There is also a strong advocation for women to become a key part of the business leadership team, which is unusual for such a male dominant industry. From my experience, Affinia have been unwavering in their approach to drive change in the industry, which is refreshing as a female entering the corporate environment.”
Affinia believes that flexible working allows for greater employee engagement, commitment, and increases our productivity levels.
